Construction manager jobs require you to oversee all the different constructions of the various infrastructures, roads, highways and even the smaller projects that happen all around the city. With the general contractor jobs you will be required to restore the old buildings that are damaged. Construction managers are also required to make new buildings and infrastructures that will help the progress of a certain place. All these different activities require someone at the helm of it. As the construction manager it is your duty to oversee all of the above.
Construction manager careers will bear fruits to anyone who is interested and doing this work because of the fact that there is dearth of opportunity. The need of human kind to build more secure places, houses, shopping malls and places like hotels and educational institutions will always provide ample amount of job opportunity for the construction managers.
The construction manager job description shows that you will be the one responsible for the supervision of the entire project. You will be there overseeing all the nitty-gritty’s and sorting out the nuances of the making of the plans till the work ends. In the construction manager jobs the manager will be responsible for the whole project and he will be the leader instructing the team to work together towards the completion of the project. In the general contractor jobs you are required to oversee the planning, direction, plotting of the budget for the whole project. The manager is also required to handle all the issues that happen during or before/after the completion of the project.
In the construction manager jobs what you will be required to perform can be listed as the following.
• You will have the authority over everyone involved in the project. Everyone will report to you and in turn you will be responsible for mitigating all the circumstances that arise.
• It will be your job to schedule the job. When and where to start and how to finish within the budget.
• You will be required to hire the number of workers, and the machinery required for the job.
• You will be monitoring if the work is being properly done or not. On a regular basis, it is your duty to track the work and curtail expenses if the overhead is increasing.
Basically as the construction manager you are required to check all the things that are necessary for the completion of a project and it is your duty to fully understand what the plan of action should be. The workers will be looking up to you for direction. So this is a very important job.
The educational qualifications that are required are either a degree in civil engineering or construction management. If you are a graduate of construction science then also it will suffice brilliantly. For the gathering of experience you can work as a trainee in some construction firm and then you have that attractive resume, apply and make that job yours.

Construction Manager Jobs – Common Myths about Construction Manager Jobs
Posted: Feb 10, 2011 |Comments: 0

]]>
The construction industry is booming currently, and now is the best time to apply for a construction job. Construction related activities are occurring continuously every day across the globe. This includes projects related to building of infrastructure, public projects, roads and highways. In this fast developing world there is no dearth of construction projects as sites ranging from industries to residential apartments are coming up on a regular basis. Construction is also necessary for the repair of buildings that require renovation. In such a context the need for construction managers is vital.
The role of a construction manager is responsible for supervision of the project starting from the entire planning of the project to seeing it through till the end. The construction leader acts as a team leader who ensures that the goal is achieved in the requisite amount of time and the project is completed successfully. The manager is in charge of the entire process right from planning, implementation, directing as well as handling the budget for the entire project. He makes sure that the project runs on time, is smoothly carried out, adheres to the previously decided budget and no accidents happen on the site.
To apply for the position of a construction manger one needs to have a degree in construction engineering, or a related degree. One must have hands-on experience working at a site that allow one to apply the theoretical knowledge in a practical way. This will let one achieve skills and technical knowledge that a degree alone cannot provide. Since the position is one of great responsibility, experience goes a long way in helping one secure such a job and to excel at it.
Some common myths about construction manager jobs include a popular idea that the pay is scarce in construction jobs. This is not true especially in the higher end construction jobs such as that of the manger. The manager is in a very desirable position and with increasing demand for highly qualified and experience managers, the pay scale also increases efficiently.
Another common myth is that the job description requires a lot of travelling and is not stable. People believe that there is no scope for family life. Again, this is not true as after the initiation stages you are free to make your own demands about placements and have your family accompany you to the site.
Many people worry that a construction manager job puts one is an unsafe position due to the danger associated with the various aspects of the job. This common myth is negated by the fact that any job comes with a certain amount of risks which can be nullified by the use of protective gear and safety measures. Although construction is reported to be the third most dangerous are of work in the United States, this is mostly carelessness on the part of employees and backdated instruments. With the advent of technology, the use of the harness, helmets, safety shoes and vests is a common occurrence.

How to Go About Choosing Your College Major
Don’t panic if you can’t decide on a major before you begin your first year of college. It’s not a big deal if you seem to be unable to choose your college major before you begin school.
Remember that a lot of students change their majors several times during the course of their college
education and in most cases it does not seem to affect their lives in any great way. They even seem to finish college around the same time as students who determined their major at the beginning and stuck to it throughout.
There are, however, some steps you can take to discover the ideal career path for you which will help you in choosing your college major. Think about it for a while before you rush into a decision. Your goal is not decisively finalizing a particular major; it is to narrow your interests to a few areas that can be explored more fully.
-Examine and assess your areas of interest. What excites you? What jobs or careers might hold appeal? Many college career centers have a range of tests that can help you decide some of these things.
-Examine your abilities. Determine what your strengths are, your weaknesses, and your skills. As a sort of roadmap, you can use your high school courses. Think of which subjects you were really good at, which extracurricular activities you preferred to participate in, and which things you learned from a part-time or summer job.
-Examine your work values. Do you want to do something that helps society? Are you ok with working under pressure? Do you prefer a group oriented job? Is stability a major issue? How important is status?
-Explore career options. Look at general lists of occupations, find specific occupations, and look for information and resources related to them. You can learn a lot about various occupations from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook.
-Honestly evaluate your options. Look at what is realistically possible for you. You may be really interested in being a doctor, but unless you have the necessary science skills, it is an exercise in pointlessness. If you are thinking of a career path that is likely to need an advanced degree, make sure you have no future commitments to stop you from pursuing graduate study. It is important to consider the realities and face the obstacles to decide if you can get done what you intend to start.
-Narrow your choices down to a few and then focus on choosing your college major. By the time you have reached this last step, you probably have a much better idea of the majors you are definitely not interested in and have figured out a few that are of interest to you.
In your journey towards choosing your college major, use all the resources you can access:
-College course catalogs have a range of information from required courses to specialized majors.
-Professors and academic advisers have usually worked in the fields they teach and can guide you with careers and opportunities.
-Classmates and seniors at college who already pursuing their Major can be a great help.
-College alumni are people in the prime of their careers who can give you the input from the real job market.
-Family and friends can also be of great help regarding majors and career paths.
-The college career center also has a wealth of information and resources for choosing your college major as well as a career, an internship, job placement, and so on.

The Truth About Medical Billing and Coding Careers
When I worked in the admissions office of an allied health college, my primary responsibility was enrolling prospective students in the school’s medical assistant, dental assistant, massage therapy, health information management and billing & coding programs.
To the college I was just a salesman with a quota to fill. To me, I was a professional responsible for providing a high school senior, a drop out with a GED or a person “re-careering” with objective information to help them make a decision that could effect their life for quite some time. I wanted to do my part to help that person get the most out of the time and money they were willing to invest in themselves.
A common theme with many of the students I enrolled in the medical billing & coding program was an interest in a health care career without the “blood and guts” (a term I remember using to relax and get a smile from the student); or in other words the close contact with patients that would be experienced by a medical or dental assistant. For them, an administrative position like billing & coding was just what the doctor ordered (pun intended).
In this school, like many others, the medical billing & coding program was combined and came in two flavors: a nine month certificate program and an eighteen month degreed program. The difference? At the conclusion of the nine month program, the student received a certificate (not to be confused with a diploma) documenting their completion of the coursework.
The student was also prepped to take the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) exam. Upon passing the exam, the student was awarded the CCS credential. At the conclusion of the eighteen month degreed program, the student would have earned an associate’s degree and, like the certificate program, would be prepped to take the CCS exam.
If I used any sales tactics it was to persuade the typical billing & coding student to enroll in the degreed program. By typical I mean a person with a high school diploma/GED and little to no practical work experience. The reason? Not because the school made more money (they did), but because I firmly believed – and still do – in education as the best way for someone to better themselves personally and professionally.
To me the certificate program was a strong second choice and usually selected by those students that, among other things, wanted to get in to the workforce faster or couldn’t afford the degreed program. As I mentioned earlier, upon graduation the student would receive a certificate stating that they completed the coursework and be prepped to take the CCS exam. To me the real value was taking and hopefully earning the CCS credential.
There are several credentials that can be earned by a medical billing and coding professional. Credentialing is a big deal. Why? Having those letters after you name (e.g. Jane Doe, CCS) proves that you have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and ability required to pass an exam issued by a nationally recognized American Medical Association (AMA) sanctioned organization. In the world of medical coding there are two organizations offering credentialing sanctioned by the AMA: AHIMA and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
When you check out the AHIMA and AAPC websites – and I really hope that you do – you will notice that their credentialing programs are all about medical coding. You may have visited the websites of some allied health colleges and noticed that their medical billing & coding programs are really a bunch of medical coding classes with a couple of billing courses thrown in for good measure.
I think there are a couple of reasons why most curriculums focuses the bulk of their coursework on coding rather than billing:
:: Students are more “employable” with combined coding and billing skills
:: The health care industry is placing more value on coding skills
:: Medical billing can be learned on the job and requires little to no technical knowledge
I may repeat this in other posts but if you really are thinking about making the financial and personal commitment to a medical billing or a billing & coding program, I can’t stress enough the importance of performing your due diligence so you can make the quality decisions that will put you in the best possible position to be successful.
By due diligence I mean partnering with a parent, mentor or someone else you trust to be honest and objective to help guide you in your decision making process. You also need to be completely honest with yourself, know your strengths and weaknesses and apply that knowledge to your decision making process. For example, if you struggled in high school or have a learning disability you may not be able to pass the coursework and should consider other employment options. On the other hand if you were an outstanding student you might consider pursuing an undergraduate degree in health information management (see AHIMA.org for more information about a health information management program).
You should consult with the AHIMA and AAPC websites to see of there are schools near you on their approved list. I do know the AAPC also offers Internet-based or distance learning courses. If you are considering a program not approved by either organization then be sure to at least check out the school on the Better Business Bureau website and Google to see what previous students have to say.
Finally – and I’m probably get some hate mail – but please be very wary about any company offering medical billing correspondence courses and certificates. You will find out the certificates aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on when it comes time to find a job. Why? There is no AMA sanctioned body that issues medical billing certifications. The certificate is simply documentation showing that you took and passed some billing training program.
I can’t tell you how many times someone sent me a resume just because they had completed a medical billing correspondence course. I would not hire anyone with no prior experience. Why? I don’t want to train a newbie and can’t afford the liability exposure – someone not knowing what they’re doing can run off clients. I stick by this hiring policy after learning the hard way. Bottom line – no prior experience, no job.

What You Need To Know About Construction Management
This is a Summary, Construction Management refers to the practice of managing a construction and serving as the project consultant to its design and other aspects of the project
At one time, construction model involves two relationships of three parties. The parties involved were the project owners; the designers (usually compose of engineers and architects); and lastly the contractors and the builders. At first the project owner creates an idea then forwards it to the architects and engineers which in turn design the idea. Now as the design is completed, it goes back to the project owner to be reviewed. This relationship known as the owner-designer relationship involves a bit of planning mostly on design features and to some extent, aspects of constructions. After that, the owner now forwards the design to the contractor or builder who in turn reviews it and appraises forecasted expenditure. If the deal is agreed an owner-contractor agreement now exists between these two. Even though there could be some association between the contractor and designer, significant relationship for most part only exists between the contractor and the project owner.
This is the construction tradition. Lately however, a radical business model now emerges from the construction hubbub. And this business model relies heavily on Construction Management.
So what is Construction Management? Construction Management refers to the practice of managing a construction in place of the owner while also serving as the construction consultant to its design and other aspects within the project. Typically an overseer, construction managers direct, coordinate and brainstorm a wide variety of the construction projects, even the selection and hiring of contractors and finances. Although there are construction managers that do not directly control the actual structure construction, some others do extensive construction management that oversees the entire project.
Construction Management also refers to the study of construction in terms of its managerial and technological aspects. That includes but not limited to construction science, construction management, and construction risk. The study of construction management can be taken by several formats. The most common and better recognized is the scholastic degree which is available on courses associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree. Other types of formats are the apprenticeship, on the job trainings and higher education. Because construction management degrees encompass an extensive range of subject topics that construction management course should be taken by majors as proposed by the American Council for Construction Education.
So what are the benefits of Construction Management? Construction managers do a lot in thinking and planning, making every project component organized. By outlining a project schedule, efficiency of time is regulated, making every event of delays, changes and disputes nil. Because construction managers do study existing situation, optimum use of worker skills are achieved, affecting a construction quality.
